Bake Wind Turbine
The first of a string of wind turbine projects for our client, Murex, is completed.
The works included the construction of new tracks & the upgrading of existing tracks totalling 1200 metres, the formation of the crane pad & turning areas, digging of 500 metres of trenching for cables & the excavating & full construction of the wind turbine base.
The WH Bond plant hire division quickly supplied the on site welfare unit, 2 x 20 tonne excavators, a 13 tonne excavator, 13 tonne self propelled roller, articulated dump truck & 9 tonne dumper & 7 metre telehandler to get things moving as the programme was very tight.
After the roadways were formed the turbine base was excavated onto good ground, blinded with concrete & then the steel fixing team fabricated the 15 tonnes of reinforcing steel before the 200m3 of concrete was poured. Due to the very tight time constraints the concrete specification had to be increased to ensure it cured in time.
Although the works had to be carried out in dreadful weather conditions the team incredibly turned the whole project around in 7 weeks & that includes for the erection & commissioning of the turbine!!
After the turbine was producing energy our landscape crew came in to cultivate & seed out around the new structure, erect new gates & fencing where openings were modified & quoin up the hedgerow ends with stone.
