About our training
W H Bond training department is an established training provider in the Construction sector and was born out of a desire to ensure our own employees achieve the skills and accreditation that is paramount in the industry. Our team now provides high quality training, testing and accreditation services to a range of customers from major construction companies to medium and small local firms as well as sole traders.
Our training centre is situated on the Cornwall/Devon border and is an accredited CITB/Construction Skills site.
Working in partnership with ourselves is a hassle free way for employers to keep on top of staff training and qualifications. We are renowned for our professional service and the speed with which cards and certificates are received after successful training is completed.
CPCS
The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) was launched in 2003 to help employers comply with regulations. It is the largest scheme for plant operators with a reported 280,000+ cards issued.
What does the course include?
The training covers the safe use of plant, training for the theory test and general health and safety. Training is available for any of the following plant items:

How long is the course?
This will be dependant up the item of plant and experience of the operator.
Why do I need it?
The scheme aims to provide the following benefits to individuals: Recognition of skills, competence and qualification. Improved health and safety awareness. Improved employment prospects. Provision of training standards to equip individuals with relevant skills to enter the industry.

Improved health and safety awareness amongst the workforce. Provision of training standards to equip individuals with relevant skills to enter the industry. A move to a qualified and carded workforce, which will help to improve customer satisfaction and the industry’s image.
What qualification do I get?
Trained Operator Card (Red)
This card is valid for 2 years from the achievement date of the CPCS practical test and is not renewable. To apply for this card operators will need to have:-
Passed the Construction Skills Health & Safety test no more than 2 years prior to the date of the practical test.
Demonstrated underpinning knowledge and understanding through the CPCS theory test.
Demonstrated operating ability through the CPCS practical test.
Operators with little or no experience will require training prior to attempting ant theory or practical test. Experienced operators with no relevant S/NVQ can apply for the card by demonstrating the above.
A relevant S/NVQ must be achieved within the 2 year lifespan of this card in order to progress to the Competent Operator card.
What can I do next?
Once you have completed the operative red card training course it is possible to progress to the Competent Operated Card (Blue). This card is valid for 5 years and is renewable.
Operators can upgrade from the Trained Operator card to the Competent Operator card by achieving the full S/NVQ with relevant units and holding a valid Health & Safety test pass.
If applying for this card as a new scheme entrant and working directly towards this card then the operator must also:-
Pass the Construction Skills Health & Safety test no more than 2 years prior to the date of the Practical test.
Pass the CPCS theory test.
Pass the CPCS practical test.
