Since 2000 we have provided a green waste composting facility in South East Cornwall converting domestic and commercial green waste into compost. Our facility diverts biodegradable waste from landfills, helping to minimise the carbon footprint throughout the local area.
The facility is open for the tipping of biodegradable waste which includes grass and hedge trimmings, leaves, tree branches, tree stumps and dead plant material.
Although composting is a natural process we accelerate the process to ensure the quick transformation of the waste into compost. Subsequently we spread the compost back onto our own farmland which acts as a soil conditioner.
The waste is firstly shredded in order to maximise the surface area exposed to the composting microbes. The waste is then aerated frequently in compost windrows until it matures. At this stage the waste is screened, removing large pieces of wood, helping to ensure that a refined compost is produced.
Our 2,000 acres of arable farmland benefit greatly from the compost and enable us to dramatically reduce the amount of inorganic fertilisers we use. Our compost helps to replenish nutrients lost during harvesting as well improving soil drainage, moisture retention, controlling soil-borne plant diseases and preventing soil erosion.
To assist our customers with their green waste and site clearance requirements we are able to offer the following services:
- Site Clearance
- Tree stump, branch and dead plant recycling
- Hire of Bandit Beast shredder
- Mowing, strimming, chainsaw work, chipping and shredding
- Site maintenance
- Soil and compost screener hire
- Japanese Knotweed spraying
In 2010 we joined forces with local recycling experts B&B Contractors to develop our existing green waste composting facility. The composting site is excellent situated just off the the main A38 at Trerulefoot between Plymouth and Liskeard. We are open to all categories of customers including landscapers, facilities management, construction companies and local councils.
Charges are made on a tonnage basis with weighbridge tickets being provided on delivery.
The composting site is fully licensed with the Environment Agency and compliant with all necessary legislation.
